The state of New Jersey is pleased to announce the continued availability of the Unreimbursed Medical and the Dependent Care Spending Accounts to employees of the state, state colleges, and state universities. You must be a full-time employee eligible for the State Health Benefits Program in order to participate in the Tax$ave program.

If you would like more information about the Flexible Spending Accounts, please check out the following link: Flexible Spending Accounts. The "Employee" drop-down menu contains links to downloadable forms and listings of eligible expenses.

The Tax$ave 2007 Open Enrollment period begins October 1 and runs through October 31. Please be advised that you MUST enroll in the FSA plans during Open Enrollment in order to participate in the Tax$ave program for the upcoming Plan Year.

Grace Period
You now have until March 15 of the following year to incur eligible expenses for the current plan year for both your Dependent Care Spending Account and your Unreimbursed Medical Account. While this does not eliminate the use-it-or-lose-it rule completely, you now have a great advantage to avoid forfeiting unused funds. If you have a balance remaining in your Dependent Care Spending Account and/or your Unreimbursed Medical Account as of December 31, you can use those funds for eligible expenses incurred from January 1 through March 15 of the following year. For example, if there are leftover 2006 funds those dollars will be used first for any expenses, then the 2007 funds will be used once the 2006 dollars are exhausted.

If you use your Benny card at a provider's office for an expense incurred from 1/1/07-3/15/07 and you still have remaining funds in your 2006 Unreimbursed Medical Account, the funds from your 2006 account will be utilized first. Once your 2006 funds have been exhausted your 2007 funds will be utilized.

Runoff - NEW
Starting with the 2006 plan year, you will have until 4/30/07 to submit expenses incurred from 1/1/06-3/15/07 for both your Dependent Care Spending and your Unreimbursed Medical Account.
