ViaCord provides an opportunity for you to preserve your baby's umbilical cord blood for possible future use in the treatment of disease in your baby or a family member. Storing your baby's cord blood stem cells is a growing trend among parents and has tremendous future potential for therapy. It is a non-controversial source of stem cells for baby and potentially for other family members. There are more than 70 diseases that are currently treatable with stem cells and more diseases are added to the list every year.

How the program works...
When you enroll with ViaCord, there is an initial one-time fee. ViaCord's service includes the collection, processing, testing and cryo-preservation of your baby's cord blood.

Immediately after your baby is born, your doctor or midwife nurse will use the collection kit to collect and package the umbilical cord blood. When the kit is ready, a private medical courier will pick it up and transport it to ViaCord's state-of-the-art processing and storage laboratory, where the umbilical cord blood will be cryogenically frozen and stored for possible future use. There is an annual storage fee until the blood is retrieved for use or if you decide that you would no longer like to keep it in storage.

What's the discount I receive?

• As a member of Horizon BCBSNJ, you will receive a $150 discount off the standard $2,195 initial ViaCord enrollment fee (includes first-year storage, private courier and processing).
• ViaCord offers a range of payment plan options to fit every lifestyle, starting as low as $50 per month for 60 months.
• Annual storage fee after the first year is $125.

The ViaCord cord blood preservation program, including blood collection by your doctor or midwife nurse, is not a covered benefit under your health plan. Therapeutic applications of cord blood may not be covered benefits and may require additional services from health care providers (and others) that are not, or may not be, covered benefits under your health plan.
