Horizon BCBSNJ’s Regional Programs of Quality program evaluates and reports quality clinical information of participating hospitals for bariatric services. This information is available to members and physicians to find the highest quality participating hospitals available for this type of service.

Facilities have been recognized as Horizon BCBSNJ’s Regional Programs of Quality for bariatric services and Blue Centers for Bariatric Surgery. A Blue Center for Bariatric Surgery is an institution within our service area that meets stringent quality criteria – as established by expert physician panels, surgeons, behaviorists and nutritionists – and demonstrate better outcomes, consistent care and provide substantial value for Blue Cross and Blue Shield members. Regional Programs of Quality designated hospitals have dedicated teams in place that provide a full range of bariatric surgical care services, including inpatient care, post-operative care, follow-up and patient education.
